TRIAL: Andrea Goeppner (right) has been charged with four of the murders

Mum-of-eight Andrea Goeppner, 45 – charged with four of the murders – after the babies’ remains were found wrapped in towels and plastic bags.

The infanticide case has shocked Germany where the court case is ongoing.

Each of the eight babies were home births and were wrapped in a hand towel.

She would promptly suffocate any baby that moved or cried then place the body in a plastic bag or container.

The body would then be hidden around the apartment.

When asked how many of the eight she confessed to killing, her defence lawyer Till Wagler said: “It could have been two, three or four.”

One baby was found to have been stillborn.

Three other babies were so badly decomposed it was unclear whether they were going to live.

The grim remains were uncovered last year in Goeppner’s apartment in the Bavarian small town of Wallenfels.

Goeppner’s estranged husband Johann Goeppner, 55, has been charged with complicity.

Prosecutors allege he failed to stop his wife from killing her offspring.

The killings took place between 2003 and 2013.

The couple did not use any contraceptives and Andrea Goeppner – described as a chronic liar – was constantly pregnant for nearly a decade.

Her husband moved out of the couple’s home a month before police made the shocking discovery after a tip-off from a neighbour.

Cops claim he was aware of each of the deaths and could have stopped any one of them.

Prosecutors say: “Through his inaction, he encouraged the accused, Andrea Goeppner, in all the cases.”

Murder carries a 15 year jail term while complicity to murder carries three years’ prison.

A verdict in the trial next Wednesday.
